Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Programme & Change Management: Lead the planning, delivery, and monitoring of maternity transformation projects, ensuring alignment with national and local priorities. Act as a link between LMNS workstreams, ICB teams, and sub-groups, providing coordination, reports, and business case support. Identify risks and implement mitigation plans to maintain project momentum.
Clinical Leadership & Governance: Provide expert clinical leadership, ensuring improvement initiatives are evidence-based and aligned with policy. Lead action plans following audits, reviews, and inspections, embedding learning into practice. Support staff in maintaining high standards of patient care and professional practice.
Data-Driven Improvement: Analyse local and national maternity data to track progress, identify variation, and inform priorities. Ensure accurate reporting for transformation metrics and governance.
Stakeholder Engagement & Co-Production: Collaborate with staff, service users, and external partners to co-produce initiatives and facilitate shared learning. Promote system-wide engagement and inclusion.
Capacity Building & Culture Change: Champion innovation, continuous improvement, and inclusive leadership. Support staff in applying transformation tools and improving service delivery.
Reporting & Accountability: Prepare updates, dashboards, and presentations for LMNS boards and governance groups. Report progress, risks, and outcomes, ensuring timely escalation.
Clinical Responsibilities: Provide high-quality midwifery care and support colleagues when needed, promoting safe, patient-centered practice.

It is an exciting time to join the newly formed Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We run two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Our 7,500 staff provide high quality care for a growing population of around 700,000 across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- Evidence of ongoing CPD Post registration management/leadership qualification or willingness to undertake same
- Expert knowledge of midwifery and its applications
Desirable criteria
- Project management qualification
- Masters Level qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
Experience

- Experience of managing change and/ or projects and be willing to further develop this expertise within the role
- Extensive midwifery experience in all areas
Knowledge

- Expert knowledge of midwifery and its applications
- Knowledge of current issues in health service provision.

- Proven abilities in cross professional working and liaison.
- IT Literate/able to use Word/PowerPoint/Excel
