Job summary

The Transformation Project Midwife will play a key role in supporting the planning, development, coordination, and delivery of maternity transformation programmes in partnership with the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS). These programmes will align with the overarching objectives of the National Maternity Transformation Programme (The Three-Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Service) and will also respond to national and local priorities, including:

- Ockenden and Kirkup recommendations

- Maternity and Neonatal Three-Year Delivery Plan

- Maternity Incentive Scheme (CNST)

- NHS Equity and Equality Guidance

- NHS Long Term Plan.

Working under the leadership of the Consultant Midwife, the post holder will provide expert midwifery input to support service improvement initiatives and transformation activities. They will demonstrate strong leadership, change management, negotiation, and communication skills to help overcome barriers to progress and support the delivery of high quality, safe, and personalised maternity care.

This role also has identified hours working with the LMNS with the direction of the ICB Chief Midwife.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a Transformation Midwife to lead and drive maternity service improvement projects across the Trust. This role combines clinical expertise with programme leadership to deliver change that aligns with national and local priorities. You will plan, coordinate, and monitor transformation initiatives, manage risks, and ensure projects stay on track.

You will provide visible clinical leadership, supporting quality improvement, audits, incident reviews, and embedding learning into practice. Using maternity data, you will track progress, identify variation, and inform service priorities.

Collaboration is key: you will work closely with staff, service users, LMNS leads, and external partners to co-produce initiatives, share best practice, and promote inclusive, system-wide working.

You will champion innovation, continuous improvement, and workforce development, supporting colleagues to apply transformation tools and improve services.

The role also includes providing clinical support as needed, ensuring safe, patient-centered care, and reporting progress, risks, and outcomes to governance groups and LMNS boards.
