The role of our Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer is to ensure that building services systems are, will be or have been commissioned properly and in accordance with the relevant requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the electrical commissioning team on site, providing technical direction and day-to-day supervision
  • Act as the primary point of contact for electrical commissioning activities with the client, main contractor, and key stakeholders
  • Plan, manage, and oversee commissioning schedules, ensuring alignment with overall project milestones and handover requirements
  • Review, approve, and sign off commissioning documentation, test results, and completion dossiers
  • Ensure commissioning activities are executed in accordance with contractual requirements, industry standards, and regulatory obligations
  • Proactively identify technical risks, interface issues, and commissioning constraints, and implement mitigation strategies
  • Manage and coordinate interfaces with other disciplines (mechanical, controls, BMS, utilities) to ensure integrated system performance
  • Provide leadership in troubleshooting complex electrical and system-level issues during commissioning and energisation
  • Mentor, coach, and develop junior commissioning engineers and technicians
  • Lead electrical witnessing activities, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
  • Manage punch lists, deficiencies, and close-out activities to achieve timely system completion and client acceptance
  • Support commercial and contractual discussions related to commissioning scope, variations, and claims
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and fed back into project and organisational best practices
  • Take overall responsibility for electrical commissioning readiness, energisation approvals, and safe handover to operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • BEng Electrical Engineering with Building Services.
  • Considerable experience will be sought to demonstrate project management skills.
  • Additional Modules Considered Useful: Construction Contract Law, Construction Project Management, Building Services Engineering, Environmental System Design, Lighting Design, Energy in Buildings, Time Management and Presentation courses.
  • Member of CIBSE, ASHRAE or equivalent professional qualifications an advantage.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a project management/commissioning management role in Data Center projects
  • Worked within company Quality & Environmental policies and procedures.
  • IT Literate - MS Office package.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of industry experience dealing with mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines
  • Must be willing to travel to site-based locations as reasonably based on HDR needs
  • Must be an experienced engineer, either a licensed PE or a field technician with excellent understanding of MEP systems, HVAC controls, the T&B process, etc
  • Must have good computer skills and effective typing skills
  • Understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be familiar with the organization of design documents, the preparation of the multidiscipline designs, and the delivery of the design & construction services
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, systems engineering, operations fundamentals, contracting, and general business operations
  • Understanding of project accounting and financial management tools
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work; ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
