Location: Northlake, Cincinnati OH 45249 (Fully Onsite)
Shift: Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm (40-hour work week)

 

Overview: 
The Chemist I valuates the chemical properties of polymeric substances for a research and development facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safety: Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety in daily activities and implemented in work designed.
  • Preparation & Analysis: Prepare samples and standards for testing. Utilizes microscopy techniques and instrumentation:
Microscopy
➢SEM - Scanning Electron Microscope
➢Hot Stage Microscope
➢Optical Microscopy
➢Sample preparation for the above
➢Microtome (or ultra-microtome)
➢Microwave digestion
➢Cryo-milling
➢Acid Digestion

  • Operate and Maintain Analytical Equipment: Run instruments accurately per established methods, calibrate regularly, and troubleshoot issues. Ensure equipment adheres to manufacturer standards and safety regulations.
  • Data Collection, Interpretation & Reporting: Collect test data, review findings for accuracy, and report through established systems.
  • Other duties may be assigned. Works under general supervision.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Associate degree or higher, or equivalent job experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Must be cognizant of the capabilities and limitations of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment to effectively direct their use for diverse engineering assignments.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision depth perception, and ability to focus.
