About the role

At National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), we keep the nation moving. Our network powers homes, schools and businesses across the UK-so ensuring it continues to evolve safely and reliably is at the heart of what we do.

As a Commissioning Lead, you'll play a critical role in integrating new and replacement assets into our transmission network. You'll review, assess and approve commissioning switching programmes from operational sites before they are passed to the Control Room for delivery, ensuring that every programme is safe, secure and aligned with system needs.

You'll coordinate a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver a robust commissioning strategy and sequence-on time, safely, and without impact on other planned activities. Acting as the operational technical authority, you'll provide expert comment on Commissioning Switching Programmes, approving switching strategies on behalf of the Control Room and resolving any issues that arise during execution.

With system security, safety and customer supply front of mind, you will take ownership of producing and distributing essential operational documentation for the Control Room and submitting required materials to the Electricity System Operator.

This role is based in Warwick for two days each week, combined with hybrid working from home.

What you'll need

We're looking for someone with experience as a Control Engineer, within a DNO control room, or holding Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation. You'll bring a strong understanding of transmission network operations, along with solid analytical skills and familiarity with fundamental network analysis techniques.

You'll ideally hold a minimum of an HNC in an engineering or STEM-related discipline or have equivalent relevant experience. A sound grasp of transmission system safety considerations and the procedures that govern safe operation is essential.

Calm under pressure, you'll be able to stay focused and make clear, informed decisions in fast-paced or complex situations. Strong logical reasoning, analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities will be key to success in this role. You'll also need confident written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work to tight timescales while accurately assessing multiple interdependent operational activities.

What's in it for you?
